A prestige ceremonial pipe from the Northern Ghana savanna tradition, attributed to the Frafra, Dagomba, or related peoples of the Upper East and Upper West regions. The pipe features a carved wooden bowl with a warm red-brown patina in a rounded gourd-like form, a ribbed and darkened bowl cap or collar with vertical groove decoration, and a metal wire band at the junction of bowl and stem. The long stem is wrapped in hand-stitched black leather with a neat cross-stitch running its full length — a mark of skilled craft and prestige ownership — with a natural wood tip at the mouth end. In Northern Ghanaian tradition, pipes of this quality were not merely functional objects. They were carried by elders, chiefs, and titled men,smoked during community gatherings, funerary rites, and consultations with ancestors.
